Lesson 15 – Pronoun Review
Review how to use pronouns in English
Pronouns are types of words that replace the name of a person, place, or thing.
Read the following paragraph. Is there anything we can do to make it better?
My cat is very old. I found my cat in 2005. My cat was sitting on my patio. I have to give medicine to my cat every day. These medicines are my cat’s.
This is not a good paragraph because we repeat the noun phrase “my cat” in every sentence. We can use pronouns to make it sound more natural and sophisticated.
My cat is very old. I found her in 2005. She was sitting on my patio. I have to give medicine to her every day. These medicines are hers.
There are several types of pronouns. We have subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they), object pronouns (me, you, him, her, it, us, them), possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs), and indefinite pronouns (anyone, someone, everyone, no one, anything, something, everything, nothing).
