Learn how to report past speech in English

If you need to repeat something that a person says, you can use reported speech.

For example: Imagine your father tells you, “I have work to do.” You can tell your mother what he said by reporting his speech. You can tell your mother, “Dad said he had work to do.” You took his direct speech and converted it to reported speech.
