Let’s talk about plural nouns in English! For most nouns, the rule is simple: add the letter s<\/em><\/strong> to the end of the word, and that forms the plural version. This happens with common words like book, sofa, chair, computer, phone, car, <\/em>and many others. If a word ends in the letters s, x, z, ch<\/em>, and sh<\/em>, you add es<\/em> to the end to make it plural. This rule is true for words like bus, box, witch, quiz<\/em>, and brush<\/em>, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, if a noun ends in y<\/strong><\/em>, we need to drop the y<\/em> <\/strong>and add ies<\/em> <\/strong>to form the plural. Some words that this rule applies to are: baby, city, library, lady,<\/em> and berry<\/em>. For nouns that end in f<\/em> <\/strong>and fe<\/strong><\/em>, we need to drop them and add ves<\/strong><\/em>. Some examples are wife, calf, elf, loaf,<\/em> and self<\/em>. When we have a singular noun that ends in o<\/em>, we simply add es<\/em> to make it plural. This is true for words like potato, tomato, mosquito, domino, <\/em>and hero<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some nouns follow no specific rules when it comes to pluralization. That\u2019s why they also need to be memorized. Here are the most common single and plural irregular nouns in English: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
